Mustang Car Show and Mustang 50th Celebration

Lincoln, Nebraska, August 8, 9, & 10, 2014

The PONY EXPRESS, MCA National Mustang Show and Mustang 50th Celebration is attracting participants from all over the US and Canada.  Please drive safely to and from and during the event.

This three day event coincides with the 50th year of the Mustang, and the sales introduction of the all new 2015 Mustang.  It will be the first National and by far the largest Ford and Mustang show, ever to be held in Nebraska. Your hosts will be the Capitol City Ford and Mustang Club, assisted by other area Ford and Mustang clubs.  The very latest, most up to date information on this event will be posted and updated on our club website:

And, you can register for the event at:

The City of Lincoln is very friendly to and favored by car enthusiast events.  Lincoln has hosted many National car events such as the Hot Rod Super Nationals, The Power Tour, The Great American Race, and the Sports Car Club of America National Championship autocross (solo) races, which is the largest participant event in the world with over 1200 participating drivers.   The Mayor and the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau have been very supportive throughout the planning of this event.  It has been designated as the premier event for the summer in the City of Lincoln.

Lincoln and the Capitol City Ford & Mustang Club will “roll out the welcome mat” as your hosts for this event.  We want all of our guests to have a very special and memorable experience in Lincoln.

This will give you a preview of what is in store for you to experience at the PONY EXPRESS, MCA National Mustang Show and Mustang 50th Celebration.

Pony Express Theme: The Pony Express did indeed use ponies—they used thoroughbreds, mustangs, pintos, and Morgans, and a pony is a bronco, mustang, or similar horse of the western U.S. Of course, the Ford Mustang is also “the original Pony Car” having been introduced 50 years ago.  In addition, Nebraska and specifically Lincoln played a big part in the Pony Express.  The Pony Express Trail passed through most of Nebraska.  Wild Bill Hickock had his first shootout at the Rock Creek Pony Express Station just south of Lincoln.

So, the event is called the “Pony Express” and we will all “have a root’ in - toot ‘in good time”.  More Pony Express history can be found at:  and and

Registration:  All judged show cars must be pre-registered by July 26th, 2014.  President's Choice classes PCA, PCB and PCC and display only cars are encouraged to pre-register also.  However, if you have not pre-registered, the President's Choice classes PCA, PCB and PCC and display only cars will be able to register at the show Friday 8 am to 5 pm, or on Saturday morning 8 am to 11 am.

Classification and Registration Check-in Hours:  Friday 8 am to 5 pm, and Saturday 8 am to 11 am (MCA requires this to end promptly at 11 am to allow ample time for judging).  MCA Classification Officials will be at the show entrance to assign the appropriate MCA Class to each participating vehicle.

Judging: Judging of Judged Entry Mustangs will be conducted by MCA Judges Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Information about MCA Judging Rules can be found on the MCA website at:

Event Information Booklet:  At check-in, each registered car will receive one event information booklet that will guide you through the weekend activities.  It will contain the schedule for each activity and the detailed information that you will need.  It will also have some discount coupons that can be used at businesses in the area.

Commemorative Event T-Shirts: To be assured of getting a Commemorative MCA National Pony Express Mustang 50th Celebration T-Shirt, they need to be pre-ordered with your pre-registration.  Pre-ordered T-Shirt prices are $20 for small, medium, large and extra large; and $22 for XX-large.  The pre-ordered T-Shirts will be given to you at check-in.  There may be a small number of extra T-Shirts available for sale at the event, but they may be a higher price and there is no guarantee that there will be any left. So, pre-order yours.  After all, it will have Mustang 50th commemorative artwork, and you probably won’t be around to buy another one for the 100th.

Commemorative Car Cleaning Container:  The first 500 cars to register in any class, ($65 or $20) will receive a free Commemorative Car Cleaning Container.  This can be used to hold your cleaning supplies, and as a container to carry water to clean your car.  It will be imprinted with the Pony Express Mustang 50th event logo to remind you of the good time that you had at the event for years to come.

Cookout Meal & Ice Cream Social Friday Evening:  The Friday Evening Pony Express Cookout Meal and Ice Cream Social will be an opportunity for everyone to get to know your fellow participants and establish friendships that will last throughout the weekend and beyond into future years.  Two tickets will be included in your $65 registration fee. Additional Cookout Meal tickets are only $5 each for anyone who has their car registered for the event in any class ($65 or $20).  For the 6-8 pm Smith Collection ticket holders, serving will begin at 5:30 pm.  Serving for all other Cookout ticket holders will begin at 6 pm.

All Friday evening activities will be held at Speedway Motors, 340 Victory Lane.  This is approximately a one mile drive to the west of the show grounds. Directions will be provided in your event booklet.

Tour the Best Racing Museum in the USA Friday Evening:  The Smith Collection (lauded by Automobile Magazine as “the very best racing museum in the country”)  is only a short distance from the show grounds.  You can take a guided tour Friday evening, and if you register your car for the judged show, two tickets to the Smith Collection Museum will be included in your $65 registration fee.  Additional tickets will be available for $10 each at the event. Your Smith Collection ticket will show your 2-hour tour appointment time of either 6-8 pm or 8-10 pm Friday evening.

Show Hours: Friday and Saturday 8 am to 5 pm.  Sunday 8 am until the end of the awards presentation (estimated to be about 4 pm).

Concessions: Food and refreshments will be made available on the show grounds by SMG, the event management organization for the Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Free Time Saturday Evening: There are no scheduled events on Saturday evening to allow you time to try some of the fine restaurants in the area, and to join in conversation with some new or old friends that you met at the event.

Autocross Racing on the SCCA National Championship Race Track Site on Sunday:

8:30 am Registration and Technical Inspection opens. Registration fee is $35.  Proceeds go to the Tom and Nancy Osborne TeamMates Mentoring Organization.

9:00 Drivers walk the race track led by SCCA Official

9:30 Mandatory drivers meeting

10:00 First car off to race

Best time for spectators will be 11 am to 2 pm.

The SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) holds their National Championship Autocross (Solo) Races in Lincoln, because Lincoln has the best autocross racing site in the Nation.  The Pony Express Mustangs will be racing on the exact same site.  It consists of 35 acres of 3 foot thick reinforced World War II Air Force base weathered concrete in prime condition for tire gripping, autocross racing.  There will be three tracks racing simultaneously.  The Nebraska Regional SCCA will be holding their Regional Championship Races on two of the tracks and the third track will be dedicated exclusively to our Pony Express Participant Races.  The Pony Express Mustang race track is being designed by a long time member of SCCA and of The Capitol City Ford and Mustang Club, Mr. Don Knop, who has won multiple National SCCA Championships in his own two Shelby Hertz Mustangs.  He promises that the track will be a fun yet challenging experience.

The NRSCCA Officials will assign your car to an Autocross Class.  There will be a type of class for every type of car, either stock, or with any type of tires, suspension, or other modifications.  The classes are intended to “level the playing field” so each driver competes with cars of similar capability.

Information on the NRSCCA Autocross Classes can be found at:

There is a $35 registration fee for each driver.  This is the NRSCCA discounted rate that they charge for their own members.  NRSCCA has offered this rate to you if you are also registered for the PONY EXPRESS, MCA National Mustang Show and Mustang 50th Celebration. And, this will be a charity event for the NRSCCA, so the proceeds will go to the TeamMates Mentoring Program.

Drivers are encouraged to pre-register at:!mca-50th/c1kfp

However, you will also be able to register at the show and/or at the Autocross event itself.  You will need your PONY EXPRESS MCA National Mustang Show and Mustang 50th Celebration window card to prove that you are registered for that event.  Each driver can only drive one car; however each car can have up to two competing drivers.  Drivers and passengers are required to wear proper Snell rated helmets. Loaner helmets will be available at the event. There can be no more than one passenger at a time.  All drivers and passengers will be required to sign the waiver form.

Minors (anyone age 19 and under) - You must have a waiver in order to participate in Solo, Rallycross and Race Events. This waiver must be printed in color, and must be either notarized or signed in the presence of an SCCA Member. Get it at:

Special Commemorative Trophies for Judged Entry winners:  The trophies for the Judged Entry winners have been custom designed and crafted by the members of the Capitol City Ford & Mustang Club, with assistance from local manufacturing companies.  The design is very special, to commemorate the Mustang 50th, and incorporate the Pony Express and its path across the state of Nebraska.  The rest will be a surprise.  We think you will be pleased.  There will be 300 of these special trophies available, so your chances of winning one as a Judged Entry participant are very good.

Commemorative Plaques for Autocross Race winners:  There will be special commemorative plaques to be awarded to first, second, and third place winners of each class of the autocross races.

Awards Ceremony: The judged show awards ceremony will be held from 2 - 4 pm on Sunday afternoon.

The autocross race plaques will be presented at the race site, shortly after the last race is finished.

That will be the conclusion of the weekend event.

Thank you for coming and please drive safely.
